Operating Department practioner Jobs

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Operating Department Practitioner to join our dynamic perioperative team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the care of patients before, during, and after surgery. The ODP must be competent in managing the complex and varied demands of the operating theatre, working collaboratively with surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the highest standard of patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

– Prepare the operating theatre and ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are available and in working order.
– Assist in the administration of anesthesia and monitor the patient’s condition throughout the procedure.
– Provide support to surgeons during operations, ensuring a sterile environment and managing surgical instruments and materials.
– Play a key role in the recovery phase, monitoring patients’ vital signs, administering medication, and providing post-operative care and support.
– Collaborate with the perioperative team to plan and implement patient care before, during, and after surgery.
– Ensure all activities comply with hospital policies, health and safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
– Participate in the training and supervision of junior staff and students.
– Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records and documentation.

Qualifications and Skills:

– Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Operating Department Practice, or equivalent qualification.
– Registration with the relevant health care regulatory body (e.g., HCPC in the UK).
– Proven experience in an operating theatre or perioperative environment.
– Strong understanding of surgical procedures, aseptic technique, and patient care in the perioperative setting.
– Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
– Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
